People often say, “God knows my heart” and yet keep on sinning. I would like to know what you think.

All have sin and come short of the glory of God. If we all sin and will continue to do so then should it matter. I can't stop sinning and doing what is wrong. Is it wrong to say God knows my heart? Isn't that the difference? Since god knows my heart/intentions doesn't the reasoning dictate what God has for me.
If a student is trying his/her best giving all they have...Going to all the tutoring sessions, staying after sfter school, meeting with the teacher and moves there grade from an F to a C the teacher will give him/her a C. However I have faith that Jesus will see our intentions, motives, and our struggle within and will have COMPASSION on us to move our grade to an A. It is true I miss the mark, meaning I have sinned, but I'm pressing towards the mark. I'm trying to make my F to an A. Until I arrive to an A I will keep pressing on.
Some people use that phrase as an excuse to do there intentions. They are not pressing towards God and His ways, they want and do there way on purpose. There is no struggle within themselves to fight temptation. Thats the difference. Its like saying the devil made me do. When that is wrong because you make yourself. They are choosing to do/ go against God on purpose. They have it set in there minds from the jump. But never want to claim responsibility of there actions.
So yes it is about God knowing your heart and about you knowing His too. Your life is being graded and looked at at all times by Satan and by God. The question is "What grade would God give me and Why?"

I really think that we have to evaluate the word "sin" when answering this question. If a person cannot work their way into heaven then why should I believe that a person can work their way out of heaven?
I don't think that people should purposely go out and mistreat or wrong others and think that they can just "ask for forgiveness" or think that it is "ok". But again - how are we defining sin?
I will answer this poll question with a "Try not to sin and ask for strength", but it deserves further discussion.

To me….sin is anything that is displeasing to God. Granted, I understand that we are people and we sin every day. But to know, what a sin is and to keep doing it, is like totally disrespecting God. I understand that we can ask for forgiveness and he will grant it. To me, continuing to knowingly sin is like going back and forth sticking your finger in God’s soar. You keep picking at it although it is making him hurt, just to say I’m sorry forgive me. I know that may not be the best example but hopeful you can see my point. People also tend to try to regulate a sin. “It’s just a little white lie” or “I just took it because he/she wasn’t using it” to be followed by “It’s not like I killed someone”. I’m sorry but a sin is a sin. Just like if you go to the store and eat a grape in the store and didn’t pay for it or if you kill someone, it the same.

stealing a grape and killing someone .. talk about degrees of a sin. Yes sin is bad no dout. Knowingly doing it is not good. Basically if you know you are doing something wrong in Gods eyes. Stop, ask for forgiveness and dont do it again. If you continue to spit in Gods face, i'm sure he will forgive.. forget is something different.. and eventually God is going to do something to make you REMEMBER not to do it again.

Just like if you go to the store and eat a grape in the store and didn’t pay for it or if you kill someone, it the same. C'mon Meek! You can't be serious about this!! Eating a grape in the store and killing someone are totally different! If you believe that God offers different degrees of punishment then there must be different degrees to the crime. God did not punish everyone the same way or to the same degree in the Bible. "Sin", in my opinion, is a moral compass. In other words, you have the Heavens (universe) and Earth and then Man stands erect between the 2. Man, in my opinion, is "sinning" when he goes against the principles that form the bond between the heavens and the earth. Sin is not going against any material law that man has created because what might be a "sin" on the West coast won't be a "sin" on the East coast. I know the Bible says that we should live by the law of the land that we live in so teh argument could be made that the sinner is going against the laws that have been extablished. What if the laws extablished though, go against God's moral law - for instance ABORTION. It's my belief that Confucious, a Chinese philosopher, was right in believing the "Heaven is not a being that rules in a personal manner but a Supreme Being who only reigns, leaving his Moral law to operate by itself."

This statement sounds like a person that is struggling with God. People that are not saved and those that are new in Christ often use this phrase as a cop out. We of course don't change overnight, but we should strive to be better and not make excuses for ourselves. For example, an alcoholic may say "God knows my heart," they make it seem they don't know that he can heal them of this disease. Yet, they continually indulge in this act. There may also be some veteran believers that say this. I feel those people need to get off the milk and start eating meat.
