Corporate America measures the success of its' personnel by sales quotas, and business developed. Athletic teams measure the success of it's coaches by wins and losses.
I'm curious - and maybe someone can enlighten me - how does a Pastor measure his or her success? Is it number of members in the church? Is it the amount of offering gathered? Is it the size of the sanctuary?
How does a pastor measure success?

A pastor's success is measured by the spiritual growth in the church. Yes, he may bring in 1,000 new members, but if those members are not being fed the word, then membership is meaningless. That is why it has been said that we need to be disciples spreading the word not just members or pew fillers.

Corporate America grades a CEO by how much growth is generated, revenue increase, how effectively the company is using its resources, generating higher stock options and price, and a stable relationship from within.
Well spiritual matters has standards and or guidelines that a pastor is held to as well. Before I go into them though, I want people to realize that these standards are what God holds each of us to. It just happens to be on a larger scale for a pastor.
God expects a pastor to study to show him/herself approved in His sight. Christians are in His sight at all times. Are the spiritual leaders being instructed with sound doctrine and being carried out to the people. Are there programs or helps established to help the audience become and learn more about Jesus. Is there spiritual growth among the people that have become members to that flock/church?
I know there is more, does anyone else have more to share?

Very good Question! I feel the same way a pastor can measure his success is through how many people come to Christ and how many souls are saved.
It's one thing to pack a stadium, gym, or church out but, it means nothing if souls aren't saved.. It means nothing if hearts and minds weren't touched.
I look to a pastor for guidance and council. I don't want a pastor that will just tell me anything to make me feel better about my faith, belief, and problems.
Sometimes the truth hurts but it needs to in order to get me out my situation or make me realize something I didn't in the beginning. I think pastor is here to speak to our hearts through the word of God.
That is what being a good pastor will do and how he will keep and gain dedicated and loyal parishioners.

I think a pastor measures his success from the vision in which “GOD” gives him. When God is leading him and as long as God is happy, then he is successful. It is impossible to please everybody. As long as he keeps his focus on God and do what the Lord tells him to do, he is successful. We fall into the trap of wanting people to like us and accept us. We have to remember and do what “God” tells us to do. The rest will follow.

I think that as a pastor you can not get caught up in measuring your success rate, unless that is your only goal. I may be mistaken but I believe the saying is where two or more gather… I believe if you are overly worried with being successful you run the risk of taking the glory from God and focus more on yourself. I want to believe if I was as “pastor” my main concern would be how to best be of service to God, His congregation, and the community that surrounds me, as long as I am doing my best for His glory then the rest will come.

When a pastor starts thinking about what the people will think of Him/Her than they are doing a disservice to the Holy Spirit, Jesus, and God. If a pastor worries about making friends and will people like me then he/ she will never be effective.
A pastor is the overseer of people souls and there relationship to God. A pastor is the mouth piece of God. A pastor should not have their own agenda. It is Gods agenda or nothing. A pastor should look inside to make sure it is the voice of God they hear and not anyone else that is leading them.
When the people reject a pastor that is doing God's Will and providing the absolute Truth of God and the people reject the pastor. What the people are doing is rejecting God not the servant of God. In doing so God will deal with that body. If the pastor is not speaking the Absolute truth of God and carrying the Will of God then the pastor is still will be judged by God.
